My name's Wyn, I'm an Electrical Fitting Apprentice and I've been with ScottishPower for two and a half years, and I'm based in Rhyl, north Wales.
During my first year with ScottishPower I lived in Scotland for 12 months, half of which was based in Dealain House, the training centre, learning practical skills that would help me out on site. The other half of the year was based in Forth Valley College helping me to achieve my City and Guilds qualification.
I applied to join ScottishPower, because I didn't want to be stuck in an office all day long doing the same thing every day. With my work now I get to do both practical work indoors and outdoors. I'm never in the same place for more than one or two days at a time. This is quite interesting for me, because I like doing different things all the time, and the work I do is always quite varied. ScottishPower has supported my career by providing me with a good level of training, both in the training centre in Dealain House in Scotland and Hoylake House in the Wirral area. I've also received a good level of training out on site.
I enjoy working with my colleagues in ScottishPower, because they're always providing me with useful and helpful information, and if I'm ever stuck or need help with anything, they've never criticised me for asking or made me feel under pressure for doing so.
I would recommend ScottishPower to a friend, because it's an international, well respected company, and it provides quite a lot of job security, which I believe is important. Also I'm never doing the same thing from day-to-day, I'm travelling to different areas or doing different work. This has also helped me meet different and new people.
