My name's Stuart. I'm a Transmission Linesman and I'm based in Currie in Edinburgh.
Ever since I was young, ScottishPower was always the first sort of main energy companies you thought about. Then when I saw an opening for the apprenticeship I thought straightaway, yes, I'd like to apply for that.
Knowing that when I was at school and leaving there, I wasn't 100% on what I would be doing with my career and my future, but having an apprenticeship was something I always wanted to do, and to have this apprenticeship and have this chance to know that it can give me a really good career is something that I'm really looking forward to.
Since I started the apprenticeship when I was 18, straight from the start they spoke about how you could become, even though you may be doing your trade as it is now, there's opportunities to maybe become a technician, an engineer, management or, potentially, even higher, and they'll always open doors and try their best to get you there.
It's a challenging job, and I like that, knowing that I'm not going to be going in to the same thing every day, knowing that I won't be, maybe, in the same place, and that if, for instance, a simple phone call could take you from one place to another and just knowing it's very varied, I like that.
The team that I work in are a great bunch of people. As well as the job being really good, it's them that make the job just as good. There's, obviously, with anybody, there's quite a few characters there, and they're the people that really make it what it is.
Since I started, a lot of my friends have been asking me how I've been getting on, how's the training, how do I personally feel myself, and after talking to them and explaining to them how it is, since then a lot of them have applied to work for Scottish Power. So from that I would say that I'd definitely recommend it
