My name's Robert, I'm a Transmission Control Engineer at the Operational Control Centre in central Scotland.
It's very difficult to describe a typical day because it's always different, it's always varied, we're always dealing with different areas of the country, different people, different problems, so I couldn't honestly describe a typical day at the Operational Control Centre.
I applied for a job with ScottishPower because I felt that it was a large professional engineering company, and I would be able to progress my career with them.
I started off as a Mechanical Fitter, and I then did some engineering training which allowed me to progress through the engineering ranks, and then I fulfilled several engineering roles in several parts of the company.
I've been very fortunate with ScottishPower. I joined with only a handful of O-levels and they helped me complete an ONC, then an HNC, and they also sponsored me to do a degree at university.
In the Operational Control Centre it's predominantly engineering based, professional engineers, and that is good because it allows us to bounce ideas off each other, help each other out, give technical assistance and advice, and generally it's a great place to work. I would recommend ScottishPower because I feel that my experience has been very good for me, they've allowed me to become educated, I've progressed through the engineering ranks, and I've had a very good living from ScottishPower.
