Meet Jonathan
Technical Trainee

My name is Jonathan, I'm an Engineering Technician. I've been working for ScottishPower for just over four years now. I'm based at Rye House Power Station in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

What we do is look at the maintenance tasks associated with controlling instrumentation with the plant. The best thing about my job is that no two days are the same, so typically we could be planning routine maintenance or break down maintenance, and actually carrying out that job as well.

The best thing about working for ScottishPower so far has got to be the apprenticeship scheme. You meet a great bunch of people, and also the training that you do is second to none really. You're learning new skills all the time.

ScottishPower support me in a number of ways. Not only have they supported me during the apprenticeship scheme, but you also have a personal development plan that you work through, for which the managers are very supportive on, and also if you have any career ambitions, say extra training or you want to go in a different direction, they'll always support you there as well.

I work within the Engineering department at Rye House, and the colleagues that I work with are very knowledgeable and experienced, and this helps, as they pass that information down to me which helps my career. We work to a very professional and safe standard, although it is very easy going at the office. I'd recommend ScottishPower to a friend, because not only do they offer very good training packages, but they offer very good benefits such as pay, holidays, pension, and they also offer the option to buy shares within the company. Not only that, but ScottishPower are really in the business of generating electricity, and as there's always going to be a demand for electricity you've also got the job security.
