My name is Gillian. I'm a Supplier Obligation Delivery Manager within Energy Retail at ScottishPower. I'm based in Glasgow and I've been with the company for 8 years.
My role is fantastic in the sense that every day there is something new, I'm not stuck within a ScottishPower office, which I think would be very frustrating for a lot of people. I'm involved in a number of government meetings, a number of charitable meetings to ensure that ScottishPower work with the right people to allow us to meet our obligations.
My role is so varied that I have no idea some mornings when I come into work exactly what it is that's going to be presented to me. It could be the government calling to go to a meeting in London the following week, or it could be a charitable organisation - the chief executive phoning to see what is it ScottishPower are doing to help customers in fuel poverty.
ScottishPower is a blue chip organisation that's based in Scotland, which was really important for me, as I'm very close to my family and friends within Scotland. However, it does give me the opportunity to travel, I get to go down south - on numerous occasions - at the drop of a hat and, for me, it was the best place to start my marketing career.
When ScottishPower bring you into the company as a graduate trainee then ScottishPower are investing time and money into your career and, in turn, you need to do the same, so don't come into ScottishPower with the sole objective of being a marketing graduate or someone who's going to progress and end their career within marketing. You have to come in open-minded and take the opportunities that come to you, and make sure that you develop yourself as a senior manager that ScottishPower want to invest in and want to keep within the organisation.
