Engineering

Engineering a better future for our customers and business

From making £multi-million improvements to our power stations to maintaining and upgrading over 110,000 kilometres of overhead and underground cables, we take on the challenges that power our business and the homes of millions of customers.

Offering a variety of engineering careers across a diverse range of specialist technical areas, we’ll constantly develop your skills and put them to the test. As an Engineer at ScottishPower, you’ll help to manage high profile engineering projects and initiatives to ensure that we constantly provide a safe and reliable electricity supply from the power station to the plug. You’ll either improve and maintain our electricity transmission and distribution network within Energy Networks, or support power generation, project delivery and our operational sites within Energy Wholesale.

Our Engineering teams provide technical expertise in the following areas:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Rotating Plant Engineering
  • Control & Instrumentation Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Gas Turbine Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Technical Risk Engineering
  • Control Engineering

Our responsibilities

Dedicated to optimising our energy supply and meeting the needs of ScottishPower customers, we ensure high quality engineering standards across all areas of our business. Continually reviewing, maintaining and improving our network, plant and equipment, we ensure the safety and reliability of our energy supply today, and for years to come.

Major challenges

Our work is highly diverse. It’s also highly innovative. You could find yourself identifying improvements to our network as part of our Asset Strategy Team or designing extensions to our network to accommodate new generation and demand within Design & Development. Your role could also involve working on large-scale capital investment projects at a major power station, collaborating with universities on cutting-edge research trials or carrying out studies to help shape Government energy policy. Whatever business or area of engineering you join us, you’ll experience plenty of variety, unprecedented engineering challenges and opportunities for skill and career development.

Careers in Engineering

Our business demands talented engineers across a range of disciplines who combine technical expertise with business and commercial awareness. You must also be a good communicator with integrity, professionalism, a good attention to detail and rigorous analytical skills.

We employ over 650 engineers in many different roles, so check out current ScottishPower opportunities. We’re particularly interested in hearing from Control Engineers, Project Engineers, Production Engineers and Control & Instrumentation Engineers.

Engineering Locations

Our Engineers are based at our many power stations and operational sites across Scotland, England and Wales.
