Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve probably got some questions about the ScottishPower graduate programme. We’ve answered the most popular questions we receive on this page, but if you still haven’t got the answers you need, please email: RecruitmentLine@ScottishPower.com

What are the minimum requirements for joining the programme?

At least a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent (predicted or gained) in a relevant discipline, although the minimum requirement for the Energy Retail programme is a 2:1. Please refer to our graduate programmes section for further information.

You'll also need full eligibility to work in the UK (we'll not be able to sponsor you for a work permit) and the willingness to travel to our sites across Scotland, England and Wales.

When does the graduate programme start?

The start date is typically mid September.

When is the closing date for applications?

Application closing dates vary. Please refer to our vacancy advertisement for details.

Can I choose the business and location that I will work in?

We’ll certainly endeavour to match your preferences, but your skills, ambitions and our business needs may dictate where and what part of our business you’ll be located in.

Are existing employees eligible to apply?

Yes. We accept applications from all candidates who meet our minimum criteria. In line with ScottishPower’s recruitment policy, please advise your line manager of your intentions.

I graduated several years ago. Would I still be eligible to apply?

Yes. We accept applications from all candidates who meet our minimum criteria.

What provisions do you make for people with a disability?

If you require assistance with your application, please call 01698 396465 to arrange to have your form completed via telephone or email your application form to RecruitmentLine@ScottishPower.com

If you require adjustments to take part in our selection process, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs. If you’re successful in the selection process, we’ll then discuss with you what adjustments, if any, would need to be made.

If I apply but don’t hear back - what should I do?

When you apply you'll receive an automated response to confirm that your application has been submitted. It may then take us a little time to review your application. However, if you don’t hear anything from us within three weeks, please email us at RecruitmentLine@ScottishPower.com

If I attend an assessment centre, will you reimburse my travel expenses?

Yes. Simply seek approval prior to making any arrangements in connection with all travel and/or overnight accommodation and we’ll reimburse you for any reasonable travel expenses.

Will I be required to go through a medical if I’m offered a place on your graduate programme?

Yes. All offers of employment are made subject to satisfactory completion of a medical assessment and receipt of satisfactory references following testing under our Policy on Alcohol & Drugs.

Will I be required to work overtime?

In exceptional circumstances, you may be required to work outside of your normal contractual hours.

Is there a probationary period for graduates?

Yes. All of our employees are subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
