Graduate Recruitment Process

The ScottishPower Policy on Recruitment and Selection aims to create a positive recruitment and selection experience for every employee and prospective employee, across every part of our business and for every level of post. The Company is committed to handling applications to a consistently high standard and all candidates, irrespective of the outcome of their application, will be treated with dignity and respect. Those involved in the recruitment and selection process will act with integrity, objectivity and professionalism.

Review of Application Form

Our Recruiting Managers will review your application form to ensure that you meet our minimum criteria and that you’ve successfully answered the motivational and competency-based questions. The recruiting manager will then update your status within the online recruitment system, which you can review by logging back into your account. An indication of this progess is shown by the status assigned to it, the common statuses are:

  • Active Application – your application has been successfully submitted and is being considered in line with the criteria for the vacancy.
  • Interview – you have been successful at the short listing stage and should have received an email to confirm details of the next step.
  • Vacancy on Hold – confirms that the vacancy has been placed on hold. You will also receive an email to notify you of this.
  • Vacancy Withdrawn – confirms that the vacancy has been withdrawn and is no longer available. You will also receive an email to notify you of this.

Assessment Centre

Successful applicants will then be invited by email to a one-day assessment centre. Please ensure that you check your emails regularly to make sure that you do not miss interview details and important updates.

This will include a group exercise, an individual presentation, psychometric testing and a competency-based interview.

We’ll assess your individual performance and team interaction against a series of essential behavioural competencies. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and to chat to ScottishPower managers and graduates throughout the day.

If you are unable to attend for interview, please call Human Resources on 01698 396465 to advise and have the vacancy reference number to hand.

Successful candidates

If your application is successful, you’ll be contacted by one of our managers who will make you a verbal offer, which will be followed by a formal offer of employment issued in writing.

Unsuccessful candidates

You will be notified by email if you are unsuccessful at any stage of the selection process. If you require feedback, you can contact our Human Resources Department on 01698 396465 who will arrange for the appropriate manager to contact you directly to provide this feedback.

Unfair Treatment

Should you consider that you have been treated unfairly at any stage in the Recruitment and Selection procedure, you should put your complaint in writing.
