Training

Empowering our people through over 250,000 hours of training

At ScottishPower Development, we provide first-class training and development to all of our people. We also deliver training to our partners and contractors to ensure that everyone and all work meets our very high quality and safety standards.

We’re passionate about working with all of our people to ensure that they have the right skills and experience to perform at their best, both now and in the future. We provide the support they need to grow and reach their potential on a diverse range of training programmes, some of which lead to recognised qualifications. To underline our commitment, our 2008 training budget of £3.5 million led to us providing over 31,000 training days to more than 16,000 delegates at in excess of 3,000 training events.

We even run our own dedicated Development Centres at Dealain House, Cumbernauld, near Glasgow and at Hoylake House in Merseyside. Here we provide a positive learning environment for all learners and continue to build on our excellent reputation for providing first-class development experiences. So, whatever your ambitions, you’ll be able to grow, develop and reach your potential at ScottishPower.

ScottishPower Learning

We work with young and disadvantaged people in our local communities to bridge links between education and employers and promote careers within the Energy and Utility sector. Since 1996, we’ve helped nearly 15,000 young people and been recognised with a Silver Jubilee Award from Business in the Community. Our work encompasses:

School Based Programmes: This is where we help pupils prepare for the world of work.

Community Based Programmes: These are designed help unemployed young people build their skills in preparation for work.

Work Based Programmes: These are designed to provide young people with vocational training, high quality work placements and nationally recognised qualifications.

Staff Development Community: We provide our people with unique and inspirational community based activities that have a lasting impact for all those who participate. Hundreds of our people have developed their team leading, leadership, enterprising, presentation and interpersonal skills on a variety of programmes.
