Over the last few years the Iberdrola Group has taken giant strides forward to achieve its aim of becoming one of the world’s leading energy groups, rising from 19th to 4th in the rankings of leading world electricity companies with operations in 30 countries.
Over the next few years, we want to consolidate our leadership and maximise quality of supply through an ambitious plan that focuses on the Atlantic area. Reflecting our strong commitment to our investors, customers, employees and society in general, our growth model is based on renewable energy - above all, wind power.
Our strategies are based on six year cycles and during our next cycle we envisage new investment totalling €24.2 billion with a continued focus on our basic energy business in Spain and abroad. Of this total, €17.8 billion (2.4 times that invested between 2004 and 2006) is for organic growth.
As well as the friendly acquisition of ScottishPower and the €6.4 billion acquisition of US company, Energy East, we’re consolidating our international expansion within the Atlantic Area. This means that 70% of investments are expected to be outside Spain, compared to only 25% in the period 2001-2006.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’ll continue to develop a flexible, global and internationally diversified organisation that’s powered by people. We’ll also continue to invest in the training and career development of our colleagues, opening up new professional opportunities for talented individuals around the globe. Put simply, the integration of ScottishPower and the Ibedrola Group means an exciting period of change, investment and career opportunities for you.
A sister company to ScottishPower, we’re part of Iberdrola Renewables, the world’s biggest producer of renewable energy with around 8,000MW in operation and 42,000MW in the pipeline. The UK's leading supplier of green energy products to domestic and business customers, we aim to increase our renewable energy capacity in the UK to 3,000MW by 2015. This will be achieved primarily through the building and acquisition of wind farms, but also by investing in biomass and other breakthrough technologies such as the floating Pelamis generator and Hammerfest’s tidal turbine that harness wave power.
We’re the UK’s largest developer of onshore wind farms with over 30 fully operational, under construction or in planning. Aiming to become the first UK utility company to reach the target of 10% of energy produced from renewable sources, we’ve recently opened a new site at Whitelee that’s the largest operational wind farm in Europe. Onshore wind is currently the most viable renewable energy technology and we lead the way in converting this natural resource into clean energy.
