In Energy Networks we work on a diverse range of challenging and exciting projects. None more so than the £200m investment by ScottishPower to unlock Scotland's huge renewable generation resource and further improve the security of the country’s electricity supply.
This project is fundamental to meeting Government energy policy and targets around climate change. It will involve upgrading existing transmission lines to operate at 4000,000 volts, establishing two new 400,000 volt substations and installing reactive compensation equipment. The first phase of works, which will increase the transmission export capacity from Scotland to England from 2,200MW to 2,800MW is on schedule for completion by 2010. The next stage, which will increase capacity by around a further 500MW is scheduled for completion by 2013. Options for further upgrades include the use of series compensation equipment and offshore direct current links to England and Wales.
Behind the delivery of this innovative and ambitious project is a diverse team of professionals with skills across a variety of disciplines, including high voltage transmission engineering, civil engineering, protection & control engineering and project management. Not to mention significant expertise encompassing economic analysis, financial and regulatory management.
If you’re looking for exciting new engineering challenges that will broaden your skills and put them to the test – look no further than ScottishPower.
